June Artist Feature

In honor of father’s day, Trellis & Vine is hosting a gallery featuring works from local artist Paul Miller and his daughter. The father-daughter duo are sharing their favorite individual and collaboration pieces throughout the month of June at Trellis & Vine, a local arts development organization in Rutherford County. They will also host an artist meet and greet on June 16th.
Paul loves color, he loves shape, he loves line quality, he loves letters, he loves to paint; his mind wanders. After obtaining a BFA in graphic design, many of the above mentioned design elements continued finding their way into Miller's studio work.
Most of Miller's thoughts are built up in the layers of his work. So many times in life, the surface is a mask hiding experiences, but the past continues to resonate and shape the present. For Miller, each layer is its own. The painting, in its finality, is a combination of emotions, experiences, and wandering thoughts; whether what you see is abstract or representational.
As a Christian who enjoys painting, oftentimes thoughts of spirituality, eternity, and moral ideals find their way into the same works as random thoughts of the day, ideas from songs listened to while painting, and more.
Miller's daughter says she’s “more excited than her dad” to display her art. She has been developing her painting style and worked in a variety of mediums, including painting rocks and designing her own Toms shoes. Paul has many years developing his art and tends to work on a larger scale. Most of his pieces are at least 4 ft x 4 ft, and he also enjoys sculpture art. They have collaborated on a few works of art together, and look forward to sharing those as well.
More than art, more than creating, Paul enjoys being a father. He enjoys spending time with his family, and has found the opportunity to capitalize on time with his daughter painting together. This opportunity offered by Trellis and Vine, has provided the chance for them to share a passion they love.
Their works will be on display all month in T&V’s storefront at 27 S Lowry Street in Smyrna. You can see the art Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am - 6:30 pm. Additionally, on June 16th at 6:30 pm, Trellis & Vine is hosting a meet and greet with the artists. This event will allow the duo to share experiences creating their art, exclusive stories about their inspirations and answer any questions about their processes. Select pieces from the collection will be available for sale.
